This role is strictly voluntary and does not provide any salary or monetary compensation by default. Some positions may offer limited commission‐based compensation for specific tasks or events. However, this is not guaranteed and depends on funds availability, as NYFurs operates as a non‐profit. As we grow, we aim to provide future benefits at events and through community perks.

Role Responsibilities
NYFurs Nonprofit Consultant – Legal Counsel / Board Member
  • Advise the NYFurs leadership team with the Board of Directors on legal, organizational, and compliance matters related to nonprofit operations.
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and filing necessary documents for establishing or maintaining NYFurs’ 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations governing nonprofit organizations, including tax and reporting obligations.
  • Provide guidance on contracts, sponsorship agreements, liability waivers, and other legal documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Treasurer and other board members to maintain transparency and ethical governance.
  • Advise on best practices for board structure, voting, and record-keeping procedures.
  • Required Background: Experience in nonprofit law. Familiarity with 501(c)(3) applications and organizational filings. Prior convention staff/board experience preferred.
  • Must dedicate at least 3 years of staying on the NYFurs Board of Directors.
NYFurs Treasurer and Budget Management
  • Oversee NYFurs’ financial health by maintaining accurate records of all incoming and outgoing funds.
  • Prepare and manage budgets for upcoming events, partnerships, and operational costs in coordination with event leads and management.
  • Track sponsorships, donations, and vendor payments, ensuring transparency and accountability across all transactions.
  • Provide monthly or quarterly financial summaries to NYFurs leadership for review and public reporting when appropriate.
  • Work closely with team leaders to forecast expenses and help allocate resources effectively.
  • Assist in developing sustainable financial plans to support long-term community growth.
  • Required Background: Applicants should have prior experience or education in accounting, finance, bookkeeping, or business management. Nonprofit or event finance experience is a strong plus.
  • Confidentiality, honesty, and professionalism are essential in this role.
NYFurs Accountant / CPA
  • Maintain accurate and detailed financial records for NYFurs, including income, expenses, sponsorships, and events.
  • Prepare periodic financial statements and assist with tax documentation or nonprofit filings when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with New York State and federal financial regulations to help NYFurs operate transparently and sustainably.
  • Oversee or assist with reconciliation of bank accounts, receipts, and digital payment records.
  • Depending on available funding, this role may include a small stipend or commission-based compensation for accounting services. In addition, CPAs may list this experience for professional credit, networking, and résumé building in nonprofit financial management.
  • Required Background: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or degree in accounting, finance, or business, registered in the state of New York.
  • Professionalism, discretion, and reliability are essential in handling NYFurs financial matters.
NYFurs Safety Team Member
  • Attend events and ensure the safety and well-being of attendees.
  • Maintain a vigilant presence to address any potential issues and coordinate with event organizers and local authorities if necessary.
  • Keep everybody in events aligned with NYFurs’ Code of Conduct.
  • Must be a member for 6 months on the server.
  • Must remain in good standing with most furry communities, regardless of location, within the last 3 years.
  • A physical interview is required for this role.
  • NYS Security License and/or GSTRT preferred, but is not a requirement.
NYFurs Event Team
  • The NYFurs Event Team plays a crucial role in shaping the community’s events, both online and in person.
  • Team members help manage and promote gatherings, ensuring our events remain engaging and well-organized.
  • Host NYFurs gatherings by welcoming attendees, facilitating activities, and creating an inclusive environment.
  • Find and share relevant furry events happening in New York (Telegram groups, Meetup, conventions, public gatherings) and add them to the NYFurs website.
  • Plan and schedule future NYFurs events, working with the team to develop and refine event concepts and structure a schedule every few months.
  • Promote upcoming events, gather feedback, and contribute ideas to improve future gatherings.
  • Active members may receive discounts on select ticketed events depending on venue agreements and partnerships.
  • Additional perks may be available for those who consistently contribute.
NYFurs Event Counselor
  • Ensure the mental and physical well-being of event attendees.
  • Provide support in cases of distress, intoxication, or health concerns.
  • Help maintain a positive, welcoming atmosphere at all NYFurs events.
  • Engage with attendees who may need someone to talk to, offering a listening ear.
  • Check in with individuals throughout the event to ensure everyone feels comfortable and supported.
NYFurs Arts and Media Team (Graphic Designer)
  • Create posters and other advertisement material to promote the existence of our community.
  • Requires prior experience in graphic design programs such as Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop.
  • Work with the NYFurs owner and other event planners to create promotional content.
  • Physical media will be printed by us.
  • Collaborate with photographers/videographers to enhance our vision.
  • Potential to create such designs for future furry conventions (optional).
  • Please note that if you have been selected for an interview, you are expected to provide a few references of your work, so that we can best learn your style.
NYFurs Arts and Media Team (Art Illustrator)
  • Create original illustrations to be featured in NYFurs promotional materials, including social media posts, event posters, and printed flyers distributed throughout New York.
  • Develop artwork that reflects the creativity and diversity of the furry community, incorporating anthropomorphic characters, detailed backgrounds, and themed visual elements.
  • Maintain communication with project leads regarding concept direction, progress updates, and revisions.
  • Expected turnaround time for most illustration requests is approximately 1–4 weeks, depending on project size and complexity.
  • Opportunities to have your artwork featured in public media, credited on official NYFurs channels, and displayed at local events — providing valuable portfolio exposure and experience.
  • Preferred Background: Experience in digital illustration, character design, or community artwork. Familiarity with drawing furries or anthropomorphic characters is highly valued.
  • Creativity, consistency, and a rigid schedule is required for this position. You may not claim royalties for your artwork.
NYFurs Arts and Media Team (Photographer/Videographer)
  • Capture moments at our events through photography or videography.
  • Help document our past events for New York to see the furry scenery we have to offer.
  • Collaborate with the social media coordinator to share visuals that showcase the positive aspects of NYFurs events.
  • Collaborate with graphic designers to enhance our vision.
  • Experience with Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom or similar programs is preferred but not required.
  • Royalties on your pictures are not permitted.
  • You must allow others to repost your pictures/videos without request.
NYFurs IT Systems Administrator
  • Provision and maintain user accounts across organizational systems, including storage servers, email platforms, and internal communication tools.
  • Configure access controls, groups, and permissions to ensure secure, least-privilege access for all users.
  • Monitor server performance and availability with the IT manager; perform routine maintenance, backups, and updates to ensure uptime and data integrity.
  • Respond to technical support requests, assisting with onboarding, troubleshooting, and system access configuration.
  • Document system configurations, onboarding procedures, and incident resolutions to keep knowledge base up to date.
NYFurs Social Media Manager
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Team to plan and post updates, event announcements, and community highlights on official NYFurs platforms, including Instagram and Bluesky.
  • Maintain a consistent posting schedule to keep followers informed and engaged with upcoming NYFurs events and initiatives.
  • Help develop creative social media strategies that reflect the personality and values of the New York furry community.
  • Coordinate with photographers, designers, and illustrators to feature event photos, flyers, and community art.
  • Professionalism, creativity, and persistence are required for this position.
