Server Rules
These official rules apply to the NYFurs Discord and Telegram. For more details, visit our official channels here.
These event rules are newly introduced, so staff will be more flexible with enforcement until May 17, 2025.
1. You
- 1a. Must follow Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines if using Discord.
- 1b. Must follow Telegram's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy if using Telegram.
- 1c. Must be 16 years or older. Anyone under the age of 16 will be removed from the server.
- 1d. Are not a zoophile or pedophile. The NYFurs community does not tolerate or accept such content or individuals.
- 1e. Are not evading a ban.
- 1f. Are not publicly displaying yourself as a babyfur on the server.
2. Respect
- 2a. No personal attacks. Avoid insults, name-calling, public shaming, or “calling out” others by name. Disagreements should be handled calmly and privately when possible.
- 2b. Honor boundaries. If someone asks you to stop a topic, joke, or behavior, stop immediately. Respect people’s comfort levels around sensitive subjects.
- 2c. No harassment or hate speech. Slurs, derogatory remarks, or any language targeting protected classes or individuals is strictly prohibited. Automated filters will block blacklisted terms, and repeated violations may result in a ban.
- 2d. Respect pronouns and identities. Use the names, pronouns, and identifiers people request. If you’re unsure, ask politely or avoid gendered language until you know.
- 2e. No recent or polarizing politics. NYFurs respects the right to free expression. However, to maintain a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, political discussions—including topics related to elections, government policy, or ideology—are not permitted. Avoid discussing recent political events—particularly anything within the past 3 months—or engaging in commentary that could be seen as polarizing or ideological. These conversations lead to division and distract from the community's purpose of fostering friendship, creativity, and shared interests.
- 2f. Avoid extensive roleplay in the server. Short, playful roleplay is fine, but prolonged or out-of-context scenes disrupt conversation. Save deep roleplay for dedicated channels or private groups.
3. Etiquette
- 3a. Be respectful and courteous. Treat others as you’d like to be treated. Avoid rudeness, bullying, or offensive language.
- 3b. Stay on topic and in-channel. Use each channel for its intended purpose. Before posting, check the channel description and pinned messages to ensure you’re in the right place.
- 3c. Protect everyone’s privacy. Never share personal information—names, contact details, or private conversations inside/outside the server, without explicit consent.
- 3d. Use appropriate communication. Avoid spamming, excessive self-promotion, or begging for roles. Keep direct messages polite and relevant; don’t harass or pressure others in DMs.
- 3e. Be welcoming and inclusive. Please greet newcomers, help answer questions, and encourage a positive atmosphere. If someone seems lost, kindly point them toward resources or staff.
- Note: This is a general code of conduct and is intended to set guidelines for behavior. Specific situations may require additional consideration or clarification. If you're ever uncertain about what’s acceptable, it’s best to reach out to a NYFurs staff member for further guidance.
4. Safety
- 4a. No NSFW content. This includes any sexual or erotic media displaying genitalia, uncovered breasts, or explicit acts. Avoid innuendo that could be construed as sexual content. Violations will be removed immediately and may result in disciplinary action.
- 4b. No NSFL content. Content that depicts extreme gore, graphic violence, or other shocking imagery is not permitted anywhere on the server, even in age-restricted channels.
- 4c. No zoophilic or pedophilic content. Any content that depicts or promotes bestiality, pedophilia, or other non-consensual sexual activity is strictly prohibited and will result in an immediate ban.
- 4d. Spoiler and trigger-warning requirements.
- 4d(a). Spoiler tags are required for any content that may trigger strong emotional or physical reactions.
- 4b(b). Always include a clear trigger warning (TW) at the start of messages involving violence, self-harm, medical trauma, or other sensitive topics.
- 4e. #vent-zone guidelines.
- Keep personal or heavy topics confined to #vent-zone and avoid overusing it for unrelated discussions.
- This channel is not a substitute for professional mental health support. If you need help beyond what friends can offer, please seek a licensed therapist or crisis hotline.
- 4f. Age-restricted channels for adult topics. Conversations about drugs, sexual health, or other mature themes belong only in designated age-restricted channels. Ensure you have the proper role before posting.
- 4g. No images of minors. Sharing photos of anyone under 16 is forbidden.
- 4h. Member photo privacy. Photos of attendees should remain within official server albums unless explicit consent of that individual is given. Always ask before posting someone’s image. If you would like to report somebody who unconsensually posted a photo, please email us at staff@nyfurs.org.
- Please report safety concerns. If you encounter behavior or content that endangers someone’s well-being, please contact our safety team at safety@nyfurs.org.
5. Advertising
- 5a. Advertising New York furry events is allowed. Members are welcome to share information about furry-related events in New York, as long as the content is relevant and appropriate for the community. Please ensure that any event or advertisement is in line with our standards of conduct, focusing on positivity and inclusivity.
- 5b. Ensure all links are SFW and family-friendly. All advertisements, including links, images, and text, must be suitable for a wide range of audiences, including younger participants. Content that is sexually explicit, offensive, or otherwise inappropriate for a general audience is strictly prohibited. Any advertisements that do not meet these standards will be removed, and further action may be taken against those responsible.
- 5c. No unsolicited or spam-like advertising. We want to foster a supportive and engaging community. Excessive advertising, unsolicited messages, or spam-like behavior is not allowed. Please avoid repeatedly posting the same advertisement or promoting unrelated content that does not align with the community's purpose.
- 5d. Get permission for external promotions. If you're promoting an event or product outside of NYFurs, please reach out to a moderator or staff member for approval before sharing. This helps ensure that the content is appropriate and beneficial for the community. Unauthorized promotional posts may be removed.
- 5e. Respect privacy and consent. When advertising events, please make sure you have consent from any individuals involved, especially if you're using their image or name in your promotional material. Always respect others' privacy, and do not share personal information without permission.
6. Moderation and Safety
- 6a. Extended details of a report on your case will not be provided. If the NYFurs Staff team believes a report must remain anonymous, we will not provide you any details on the person.
- 6b. Respect the decisions of staff and moderators. Staff and moderators are here to ensure the community remains safe, respectful, and enjoyable for everyone. If you disagree with a decision or action taken by staff or moderators, please direct any concerns privately through the appropriate channels. Publicly questioning or challenging staff decisions disrupts the community and can lead to further consequences.
- 6c. Mini-modding is not allowed. Mini-modding refers to when a member attempts to enforce the rules or correct others in a way that is not their responsibility. While we encourage members to be helpful and supportive, please leave the moderation duties to the designated staff and moderators. If you witness a violation, please report it to the appropriate staff or moderators instead of intervening yourself.
- 6d. Do not attempt to bypass the rules. The rules are in place for the safety and enjoyment of everyone involved. Any attempt to exploit loopholes, find gray areas, or manipulate the system to bypass these rules is still considered a violation. If you believe a rule is unclear or needs improvement, feel free to bring it to the attention of staff, but do not attempt to circumvent it for your own benefit. All actions that violate the spirit of the rules will be dealt with accordingly.
- 6e. Compliance with Moderation Actions. If a staff member or moderator takes action against you—whether that’s issuing a warning, muting, banning, or any other enforcement measure—it is important to comply immediately. If you feel a moderation action was taken unfairly, you may appeal privately to the head of safety (hex@nyfurs.org), but continued disruptive behavior will not be tolerated during the appeal process.
- 6f. Be respectful during disputes. If a disagreement arises, we ask that you handle the situation calmly and respectfully. If you find yourself in a situation where emotions are high, take a step back and reach out to moderators or staff for help resolving the issue in a constructive manner.
- 6g. Legal Violations. Any violation of the law within the server will be taken seriously. This includes, but is not limited to, harassment, threats, illegal content, and any other activity that violates legal statutes. If a member is found to be engaging in illegal activities, appropriate action will be taken by NYFurs Staff. A permanent ban from the server will be immediately enforced, and we will pursue legal action to the fullest extent of the law, if necessary.
If you feel that a moderator has abused their power, contact @gamboiuwu to appeal the decision.
Three-Strike Enforcement
- First Strike: A warning will be issued with a brief explanation.
- Second Strike: A 24-hour timeout will be imposed. You will be temporarily muted or unable to interact in the server during this period.
- Third Strike: A permanent ban will be enforced. After a third violation, you will no longer be allowed to participate in any NYFurs-owned servers or events.
- Appeals: If you believe that a strike was wrongfully issued, you may submit an appeal by emailing staff@nyfurs.org. All appeals will be reviewed by the moderation team.
Please note that this system is in place to ensure a respectful and safe environment for all members. The moderation team has the final discretion on enforcing this policy based on the context of the situation.
